Architecture and construction run through my veins. In my childhood I built my fair share of imaginative tree houses and forts in the woods fashioned out of tarpaper & plywood. I frequented my grandfather’s architectural firm often in my youth, later designing my dream homes in high school. And I worked during the summer in construction throughout high school and college.
I spent my professional years working for a national post and beam manufacturing company as a lead designer, sales representative and project manager. Over the span of 37 years I was involved in hundreds of primary and secondary home design projects, additions, and light commercial design and construction projects mainly along the eastern seaboard but also as far away as Idaho and Washington state. As a result of this experience, I developed a keen awareness and aesthetic for the importance of good design as well as functionality, while being cognizant of the overall budget. It is this combination of aesthetics and practicality, of form and function, which drives my sensibilities. I am most interested in problem solving and providing concrete, sensible solutions to help you, the client, implement your project.
Since retiring, I have missed the challenge of coming up with good home and addition designs and designing creative solutions for smaller projects, as well as the excitement and opportunity to be a part of the construction process. It is for this reason that I have “hung out my shingle” once more, providing a lifetime of experience and expertise.
The following examples are a small sample of Habitat Post & Beam homes I was intimately involved with as well as several examples of my own designs and projects since retiring.
I hope these design ideas will inspire you. Enjoy!
